Best Black Female Therapists in Phoenix, AZ
CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF THERAPY π₯³
The following is an Instagram post I wrote earlier this year about therapy.
There's no way I could have...
π Been Black in America in 2020
π Done racial justice work on a public platform
π Become @dooley.kendall 's girlfriend
π Run a business + podcast
π Resign from my job
π Become a pastor @kaleophx and raise support
π Experience family loss π
π Survive a world-wide pandemic, quarantine through an extreme amount of isolation
...and still be healthy...without therapy.
If you're like me, you may have grown up with a certain stigma around counseling/therapy, but it has honestly been THE most helpful thing I've ever experienced.
Even more than church π I'm not kidding π and I'm about to become a pastor myself. π
Therapy (more specifically, working with an EMDR specialist) has given me very specific tangibles I can work on to have a healthy mental and emotional rhythm of life.
Due to privacy policy, @doctorchante is not allowed to engage with posts from her clients, but let me tell you, she is THE BEST. I spent an entire year looking for someone off and on and finally found someone that really knows her stuff and just...GETS IT.
π She gets racial trauma.
π She gets childhood trauma.
π She gets adult trauma.
π She educates you on how the mind works.
π She points out behavior you repeat that's unhealthy for you and those around you.
π She gives you recommended resources.
π She's fun, down to earth, cusses a little (which I need, haha!)
π She's just GET'S IT.
I ain't gone hold you. I've put in a lot of work too! Everything she recommends...I do it.
When she says, have this vulnerable conversation with your boyfriend...I do it. Have this vulnerable conversation with your friend...I do it. Read this book...I do it. Journal about this...I do it. Practice some yoga...I do it. Take time for yourself...I do it...and because I've been doing the work, I'm seeing the results. This is the healthiest I've ever felt mentally and emotionally.
I believe the best gift I can give to you as a friend, sister, daughter, girlfriend, co-worker, AND soon to be pastor (hello? π) is the gift of a healthier me. If I'm not healthy, I will disciple others into my toxicity.
She is not asking me to post about this, but I've told several people about her and feel there may be more that need a good therapist.
If you're a person of color and you need a Black female therapist...try Dr. ChantΓ©. Even if you can only go once a month or once a quarter. She even does Zoom sessions! AND, she can provide you with other good recommendations if she's not a good fit for you.

KELLI RANDON, LPC
I am cis-gender, biracial woman, raised by my black family. As a singer and writer myself, Iβm a firm believer that what is difficult to say in words, can often be expressed through the arts and music. There is so much healing in being creative! So, I enjoy incorporating the arts and music into therapy when I can. Iβm also extremely passionate about helping people who may be going through spiritual changes, or those whoβve been hurt by religion. At times, and if necessary, I can incorporate therapies such as EMDR into my practice to help people heal from past trauma. I like to meet people where theyβre at, and sit alongside them on their journey, rather than push them in any sort of direction. Iβm also affirming of all sexualities and genders, and enjoy working with the LGBTQ community. My ideal clients are people of color, creative, and those ready for healing and change.
TIARA STEVENSON
MS, LAMFT Marriage & Family Therapist Associate
Beauty has always been my favorite word; not referring to physical beauty or vanity, but to the kind of beauty that is created through growth and healing. The kind of beauty that emerges after a lonely child makes a friend, or after a distant mother and daughter find a way to bond. Itβs beautiful when people find purpose and offer their unique gifts to the world. Itβs beautiful when adversity can be used as a catalyst for creative processes and art making. The peace that comes while sitting by the water, seeing natureβs beauty on trails or creating artwork for oneβs self is beautiful.
ASHLEA TAYLOR
MAS-LMFT License Marriage & Family Therapist/Owner
βI became a Marriage and Family therapist because the foundation of Marriage and Family Therapy is routed in finding the root cause of the problem,β Taylor said. βThis includes looking at the dysfunctional generational patterns within the family unit and then asking the client in front of me, βDo you want to change these problems/patterns in order to create an indefinite result? When the client says, YES! Itβs go time,β Taylor explained.
RHASHANNA MCCOMBS
MSPC, LAC, Associate Therapist
My firm belief about therapy is that if you are βjust thinking about itβ, you need it. With that said, there is nothing wrong with wanting or needing therapy. Our minds can be confusing, scary places at times and although we often have no choice in the trauma we experience, we do have a choice to do something about it and make our minds a peaceful place. As a therapist with over 10 years of experience in treating children, teens and adults across all walks of life, I have a passion for uplifting people and creating safe spaces for people to discover themselves and heal.
